Welcome to the Alpen-Kilt hike in Obervellach!
A celebration of friendship, nature, and adventure!
The landscape is mysterious, wild, and impressively beautiful. The people are down-to-earth, warm, and love to socialize. And the style? Authentic, sustainable, and naturally checkered!
For thirteen years now, the people of Mölltal have been celebrating their very own "Highland Games": the Alpine Kilt Hike through the impressive Groppenstein Gorge.
Organized by the Mölltal Tourism Association together with Nathaly and Thomas Rettl, this event is one of the most original and convivial kick-off events of the hiking season in the Hohe Tauern National Park region and along the Alpe-Adria Trail. Under the motto "Together with us in the countryside!", the focus is on exercise, fun, good spirits, and genuine team spirit—ensuring an experience that will be remembered for a long time to come.
So, pack your kilts, gather your friends, and mark this special date in your calendar! Because here , the more the merrier. Bring your favorite people and make the 2026 Alpine Kilt Hike an unforgettable day together.

The most important thing right at the beginning
The Alpine Kilt Hike is all about fun and entertainment!
Whether young or old, alone or in a team (up to 4 people) – everyone is welcome to join our hike. Individuals and teams of two have the opportunity to form a complete team on site.
The conditions for participation are very straightforward: bring your good mood and follow our relaxed dress code. A kilt is not a must—but we welcome plaid pants or shirts, dirndls, or lederhosen.
Program
- From 9:30 am: Registration at the leisure center/campsite
- 11:00 a.m.: Start of the 13th Alpine Kilt Hike
- from 15:00: CARDED MARKET TIME on the main square
- from 20:00: Award ceremony of the Alpen-Kilt team competition*
- Entertainment by the top band “Showdown”
- Rettl 1868: A fashion show by the “Kata Mackh Dance Company”
The winning team will receive a voucher worth € 500.00 from Rettl 1868 Kilt & Fashion as well as other great team prizes.
