Mountain lakes in the National Park
When the eternal ice retreats, STILL WATER is left behind.
The retreat of the glaciers has created up to 150 mountain lakes in the Karen and on the high plateaus of the Hohe Tauern.
Beautiful, like shimmering jewels, they lie there and feed the many roaring mountain streams, which then make their way down into the valley over waterfalls, through gorges and ravines.
The Grossglockner
It is the undisputed symbol of Austrian mountaineering dreams, the Grossglockner. The tour to its 3,798 m high summit and to the country's most famous summit cross is not only far and high, it is also technically demanding and therefore reserved for people who have a basic level of mountaineering ability. Many paths lead up and many steep slopes lead down again.
Water sports
The "wild waters" in the Hohe Tauern are not only breathtakingly beautiful, powerful and fascinating, on its way from the mountain to the valley the water forms a world of adventure for water sports enthusiasts that is second to none. From canyoning in gorges and ravines to canoe tours on the Drau, there is something for everyone.
Glacier trekking
Water in its most breathtaking form, as glacier ice has covered large areas of the high mountains of the Hohe Tauern for many centuries and opens up a breathtaking world of adventure. In total, there are 342 glaciers that shape the entire area of the Hohe Tauern National Park; as of 2015, 10%, or 173 km², of the park was covered with glacier ice.
Flora and fauna
Animals and plants, fauna and flora or whatever you want to call them, they really bring the Hohe Tauern National Park to life. Their symbiosis creates life in the high mountains and their coexistence in the sensitive natural environment of the Hohe Tauern is the very special experience that you can enjoy here.
Hiking along the water

Climbing
Hiking is all well and good, but walking on stone and rock doesn't entice us out from behind the stove. We want to go vertical and preferably with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The Hohe Tauern provide the best terrain for various vertical adventures. Be it on a sport climbing tour in the climbing garden, on epic via ferratas or on high alpine summit climbs.

Popular with cyclists is the Glockner Cycle Path, a charming and family-friendly route that winds along the clean Möll river in the middle of the high mountains. Historical sites and untouched nature along the way invite you to linger and enjoy.

In winter, Stall im Mölltal is transformed into a fantastic ski touring area. In ideal conditions, you can enjoy the firn snow in the Klenitzen above the Staller Sonnberg one day and explore the powder snow in the Staller Wölla the next. Popular ski tours in a breathtaking winter landscape lead to the Hochgrubenkopf, the Hochkreuz or the Weißenkopf.
In just a few minutes, you can reach an altitude of over 3,000 meters and enjoy an impressive panorama as you glide down grippy pistes. The Mölltal Glacier also serves as a training area for 16 national ski teams, including Germany and Austria.
The Mölltal valley offers various options for off-piste activities: A rafting tour or kayak trip in the Mölltal white water arena and the picturesque Raggaschlucht gorge are unforgettable experiences. The Raggaschlucht, a natural wonder, fascinates visitors of all ages: sometimes with wild, tumbling water, sometimes calm and clear, all embedded in the millennia-old mountain landscapes. A hike through the gorge allows you to experience the elemental force of water and the beauty of nature up close!
For all nature lovers who love the Alps, Mallnitz offers a little paradise in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Whether active adventurers or those seeking peace and quiet, everyone will find their wishes fulfilled here.
Whether you are an active nature lover or looking for peace and relaxation, Mallnitz has something for everyone, especially for hikers. The Seebach Valley is one of the most beautiful high mountain valleys in the Hohe Tauern. You can hike along the Seebach stream past thundering waterfalls and finally relax by the crystal-clear Stappitzer See lake.
For demanding mountaineers, the mountaineering village of Mallnitz offers fantastic trails to the 3000 m peaks high above the village. You will be rewarded with a panorama that looks like something out of a picture book.
Mallnitz also focuses on soft mobility - as a member of the "Alpine Pearls" network, Mallnitz stands for environmentally friendly and stress-free vacations.
In winter, Mallnitz transforms into a meeting point for winter sports enthusiasts. The Ankogel attracts visitors with fantastic deep-snow slopes and the longest snow-sure ski run in Carinthia with an altitude difference of 1349 meters.

Obervellach, nestled in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park, is the ideal starting point for nature experiences.
The majestic mountains around the village await you with mysterious gorges, such as the Groppenstein Gorge, which impresses with romantic landslide scenarios and breathtaking waterfalls.
Another highlight is the Motorik-Park Mölltal. With around 30 stations, it offers the opportunity to train coordination, motor skills and the mind all year round - free of charge.
Exclusively in the climatic health resort of Obervellach, you have been able to enjoy the so-called Schroth Cure for almost 200 years. As one of the oldest healing methods in Europe, it detoxifies the body in a gentle way through healthy nutrition, massages and steam wraps.
A special tip for foodies: visit the Slow Food Village.

White water rafting on the Möll also offers an exciting adventure for thrill-seekers.
Hikers and mountain lovers should definitely take a ride on the Kreuzeckbahn cable car. This takes visitors to the mountain station at the Roßwiese water reservoir, at around 1200 meters above sea level.
Reißeck also attracts visitors in winter with a stay close to nature in the Hohe Tauern National Park region. The municipality is an ideal starting point for ski tours, skiing, tobogganing and snowshoeing in Carinthia's highest ski areas, the Mölltal Glacier and the Ankogel.
Along the fabulously beautiful gorge trail, visitors can experience and enjoy breathtaking natural beauty and thundering waterfalls. But it's not just nature that inspires: In Mühldorf, climbing enthusiasts will find the climbing hall offers a wide range of activities on 1,250 m² of climbing area, both for experienced climbers and beginners of all ages.
Mühldorf also offers a wealth of leisure activities: Cycling through picturesque landscapes, mountain biking, rafting on the Möll as well as culinary delights and living traditions perfectly complement the leisure activities on offer.

Experience a unique journey through time with several barrier-free multimedia stations and view a detailed model of the landscape, which gives you a unique insight into the past.
Hikers and mountaineers can enjoy the picturesque mountain world of the Tröbacher and Göriacher Alm. Cyclists along the Drau or Grossglockner cycle paths can enjoy the varied natural scenery. Hang-gliders and paragliders can experience the fascinating Upper Carinthian landscape from a bird's eye view. The Möllbrücke adventure pool provides a refreshing cool-down.
A popular excursion destination nearby is the ruins of Feldsberg Castle from the 12th century, where the Peace of Pusarnitz was signed in the 15th century.
