The lower Mölltal tells many stories and there is a lot to experience

The lower Möll valley tells

What better way to understand the history and the many processes inside the national park than through stories. The Hohe Tauern National Park is not only made up of rock and ice, it is above all the people who shape and form this original landscape.

Their coexistence with animals and plants is the stuff our stories are made of. Stories that tell of life in and with nature. Listen to our stories and experience first-hand what's new in Mölltal!

Journey of water

Mountain lakes in the National Park
When the eternal ice retreats, STILL WATER is left behind.
The retreat of the glaciers has created up to 150 mountain lakes in the Karen and on the high plateaus of the Hohe Tauern.

Beautiful, like shimmering jewels, they lie there and feed the many roaring mountain streams, which then make their way down into the valley over waterfalls, through gorges and ravines.

The Grossglockner
It is the undisputed symbol of Austrian mountaineering dreams, the Grossglockner. The tour to its 3,798 m high summit and to the country's most famous summit cross is not only far and high, it is also technically demanding and therefore reserved for people who have a basic level of mountaineering ability. Many paths lead up and many steep slopes lead down again.

Water sports
The "wild waters" in the Hohe Tauern are not only breathtakingly beautiful, powerful and fascinating, on its way from the mountain to the valley the water forms a world of adventure for water sports enthusiasts that is second to none. From canyoning in gorges and ravines to canoe tours on the Drau, there is something for everyone.

Glacier trekking
Water in its most breathtaking form, as glacier ice has covered large areas of the high mountains of the Hohe Tauern for many centuries and opens up a breathtaking world of adventure. In total, there are 342 glaciers that shape the entire area of the Hohe Tauern National Park; as of 2015, 10%, or 173 km², of the park was covered with glacier ice.

Flora and fauna
Animals and plants, fauna and flora or whatever you want to call them, they really bring the Hohe Tauern National Park to life. Their symbiosis creates life in the high mountains and their coexistence in the sensitive natural environment of the Hohe Tauern is the very special experience that you can enjoy here.

Hiking along the water
Vast glaciers, steep flanks, green mountain lakes, impressive waterfalls and a dense network of hiking trails and mountain paths in between - just waiting to be explored and experienced by you. Hiking in the Hohe Tauern National Park, a journey of discovery in Austria's most impressive natural area.

Climbing
Hiking is all well and good, but walking on stone and rock doesn't entice us out from behind the stove. We want to go vertical and preferably with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The Hohe Tauern provide the best terrain for various vertical adventures. Be it on a sport climbing tour in the climbing garden, on epic via ferratas or on high alpine summit climbs.

Wild & sporty
